The sensor detects methane at distances up to 100 meters. Pilots receive real-time readings and access the complete data log post-flight.

Description

The sensor detects methane at distances up to 100 meters. Pilots receive real-time readings and access the complete data log post-flight.

The concept is based on Infrared Absorption Spectroscopy. The laser emits light (spectral range of 1,65 μm), which reflects and is captured by the sensor. The outgoing and incoming signals are compared with the built-in reference cell. The light is partially absorbed if methane is present along the laser path. An algorithm calculates the gas concentration in ppm×m (parts per million multiplied by meter). The value is instantly transferred to the remote control (RC) of the drone pilot and UgCS software.

The methane detection bundle consists of the following:
- Laser Falcon sensor-methane detection unit
- SkyHub onboard computer-data processing and storage unit
- UgCS and Custom Payload Monitor-Mission planning and control software
