Valeport expands into new premises

Valeport Limited

Valeport’s riverside base in Totnes in the southwest of the UK house all our facilities for designing, CNC machining, environmental testing, assembly, calibration and servicing of all our instruments.

We have recently invested in our waterfront facilities and increased our headcount to facilitate growth, reaffirming Valeport’s commitment to south Devon.

Valeport employs more than 100 people in our current premises on St Peter’s Quay, and has recently acquired the adjacent building, the former Devon & Cornwall Housing offices, to allow the company to increase our manufacturing and product service capacity, to serve a growing selection of customers and markets.

Global demand for Valeport’s precision sensors and probes has continued to grow robustly, with our order book showing a 22% increase on this time last year, and to meet these markets, we have invested to create more Production and R&D space. The former Devon & Cornwall Housing offices, now named Radcliffe House, were acquired pre-pandemic but have now been refurbished by Valeport to house our Sales, Marketing, R&D, HR and Finance departments, creating space for Valeport to expand and refurbish the production facilities in its existing Sandquay Building.

New staff and apprentices have been taken on in our Machine Shop, Product Assembly, R&D and Service departments to support the company’s growth plans. Valeport, which has a turnover of over £12.3million, has a strong focus on lifelong learning and career development. We currently have six apprentices in training with a further ten graduated apprentices fully employed by the firm.

Matt Quartley, Managing Director, Valeport Group commented: “Acquiring Radcliffe House is significant for us and opens up another exciting chapter in Valeport’s fifty plus year history. The increase in our manufacturing capacity and new staff to support our expansion plans, marks the beginning of our next period of growth.

“The additional space will enable us to capitalise on a growing workload, to support our clients across the world and ensure we continue to produce premium, precision technology from our Totnes base. The future for us is very bright and the extension to the production facilities and additional space puts us very much on the front foot,” added Matt.

The refurbishment of Radcliffe House includes the addition of new solar panels to the roof.  These new solar panels are now completely powering the new building and also creating excess green electricity which is being fed back into the national grid.

Alongside the refurbishment of the new Radcliffe House, Valeport has invested to upgrade our existing buildings that house the now expanded manufacturing capabilities. These improvements to Valeport’s facilities, include a recent replacement of the Sandquay Building roof to deliver increased thermal efficiency, have only been made possible by our acquisition of Radcliffe House.

The expansion into Radcliffe House now means Valeport’s headquarters in Totnes span over 44,000ft2 across three modern waterfront buildings.
