We had the good fortune of connecting with Christine Schubert and we’ve shared our conversation below.

 

Hi Christine, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?

We have two kids, ages 6 and 7. By far, the most important thing we’ve done as parents is to teach our kids about God. Their faith is so pure, it inspires us tremendously! The bible is like a handbook for life and we have daily conversations that weave its teachings into our parenting. We also make our marriage a priority- even above the kids. They see a loving and united front. We try to give them a great example of how spouses support and care for each other. We prioritize God first, then family, then the business and everything else.

 



 

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

Our business is creating and manufacturing Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs- think underwater drones). We often get the question of, how did you get into that!?! Peter’s background is in electrical engineering. He helped develop and build large ROVs, the size of SUVs. Then, he traveled around the world working on large boats operating and maintaining the ROVs. That is what set us apart from other ROV companies. As an operator with an engineer’s mind, he thought of ways to improve the design. Most engineers don’t have the operating experience and the operators don’t have the design expertise. There is tremendous opportunity to upgrade the smaller ROVs (luggage size) to be more capable and perform many of the tasks of the large ROVs. That is our main focus. We build smaller ROVs that are user friendly to operators and more capable than a basic ROV with a camera. Business-wise, we’ve had our challenges as most businesses do. In the beginning, we should have had a stronger business plan to stick to. We were customizing our products too much. The extra design time for one-off vehicles cut into our profits. While we like the challenge and opportunity to get creative, we have had more success sticking to our 3 main ROV designs. We are able to customize those to fit the needs of our customers.

We are excited to lead the way in ROV innovation. We believe ROVs are where drones were 10 years ago. We see a lot of room for growth with this relatively new technology!

 



 



 

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

This is a fun question! I am a native to AZ and am very proud of my state. I’ve moved out of state a few times but seem to always find my way back home. I actually have a friend moving to Chandler. We are going to meet for dinner tonight at Postino. AZ has great restaurants! I’ll be telling her about Oreganos, Someburros, Arriba’s, BLD, Original Chop Shop, and the Living Room.

We are a family that loves road trips! Our favorite drive is the 89A between Sedona and Flagstaff. We have a family cabin in Forest Lakes, east of Payson, where I like to take guests. Its a cooler, quieter place away from the heat of the city. Southern AZ has a lot to offer, too! Beautiful scenery and landmarks. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

Peter and I are a husband and wife team. Both sets of our parents are entrepreneurs. They gave us the confidence and example of what that looks like. We’ve learned from their successes and mistakes, whicch can be equally valuable! We’ve both been encouraged by our parents to keep learning and bettering ourselves. We are consistently aquiring new skills and seeking motivation from other successful entrepreneurs.
