Tech Talk - 4 Large image sensor | Phase One
Why is it important to have a large image sensor when you look for a small detail? Small details required a very small GSD (ground sampling distance), which means size of the individual pixels of the target object. Smaller GSD improved confidence for human eye and AI based inspection because there will be more pixel available. With a given camera smaller GSD can be achieve by getting closer, by using a different lens, or by zooming in. But in some applications getting closer it is maybe not allowed or involved too much risk. So for very detailed inspection we need a very small GSD which means many images taken per asset. In this case, since you have to take many images per assets the productivity of your work will be low as it requires more time per asset and much more complex flight planning. The result will be complex and cumbersome due to large number of images. The solution is to use a camera with a large and high-resolution sensor. It captures more pixels per image which means you need to take less images and therefore productivity is boosted.
