Wave & Current Radar

A unique high performance remote, dry sensor for measurement of directional wave spectra and surface current

The Miros Wave & Current Radar is based on proven technology which has been successfully providing ocean insights to the maritime market for over 35 years. The sensor is being continuously developed to meet the latest modern requirements. In fact, it is now available as an IoT-enabled sensor. This means that it is truly plug-and-play only needing power and an internet connection to give secure access to immediate, real-time data about the ocean state.

Description

The Miros Wave and Current Radar is the only sensor in the world utilizing dual footprint pulse Doppler method for wave measurements and microwave dual frequency method for measuring surface current. The accuracy of the sensor has been verified in a number of independent comparisons. The data quality is at the same level as high performance buoys, but with higher availability. Additionally, this is a dry radar which does away with the expensive operations related to buoy deployment and recovery. This is a cloud-integrated radar which introduces the benefit of easy access to data anytime and anywhere.

The wave and current radar observes the ocean surface in a semi-circle at a distance of 180-450 meters, depending on the installation height which is typically 25-80 meters. The selected frequency of operations ensures a very high degree of penetration through precipitation and sea spray and provides accurate measurements in harsh weather situations of any kind.
