Sediment Classification Software

Sediment classification software allows the user to process data from various sensors such as [multibeam echosounders], [side scan sonars] or [sub-bottom profilers] to determine the type of sediment on the seafloor. The software uses the backscatter and bathymetric data to segment the bottom into various sediment classes such as mud, sand, gravel or rock. Sediment classification is an important tool in [marine surveying and bathymetry] as it allows better charting of the seafloor. The resulting maps are not only used for [navigation] but also for [mining and energy], [construction and engineering] and [farming and conservation] of the marine environment.
