OSIL Giant (Jumbo) Piston Corer
A robust sediment corer offering longer, less disturbed and more complete camples than a Gravity Corer system, making it an important tool in the study of marine sediments.
The action of the piston reduces internal friction and prevents plugging allowing cores of up ot 60m to be retrieved in soft sediments and muds.
The system is lowered to the seabed, where an acoustic release mechanism or trigger arm activates the final free fall penetration to obtain a core sample.
