About Acuity Technologies

Robert Clark started Acuity in 1993 to develop and market industrial laser rangefinding and lidar systems. Contact Robert through LinkedIn (at) acuitylidar.com. Acuity's first product was the AccuRange 3000, a time-of-flight distance measurement sensor for industrial applications with a range of up to 50 feet and a measurement accuracy of 0.1 inch rms. This was followed by the AccuRange 4000 and a line scanning mirror system as well as short-range higher resolution triangulation-based sensors. Acuity's first complete Lidar system, the SRI-500, was introduced in 2010. This had a 120 by 360-degree field of view but did not offer continuous turret rotation. The maximum measurement range was 500 feet, and the peak sample rate was 800,000 points per second. Starting in 2012, Acuity developed the LRI-5000 long-range measurement system. With an 8-inch collection telescope, this eye-safe system measures the distance to objects up to 30 km. It includes variable sample rate, variable beam divergence, and first/last return selection. In 2017 Acuity introduced the AL-500, a next-generation Lidar significantly smaller than earlier systems, with unlimited turret rotation, improved accuracy, a shorter laser pulse duration, and a smaller laser spot size. The AL-500AIR, a lightweight single-axis lidar, was introduced in 2020. The AIR is based on the AL-500 technology, upgraded to include multi-return detection capability, and is designed for airborne and industrial process applications. Acuity's PointWorks software is used for the control and acquisition of data from the AL-500 and other capture hardware and for working with the point clouds they produce. Point cloud data may also be exported in.LAS format for use with other point cloud and polygon processing software. In addition to products such as the AL-500 and AL-500AIR, Acuity can incorporate scanning components into systems that meet customer requirements for performance and form factors that cannot be met with standard products.
